Kittur Rani Chennamma

These are a series of paintings on display at Kittur museum. There were many more interesting paintings which I missed shooting. These paintings are created by several artists during Kittur Utsav few months back.

1820s... that's the fort's main entrance, facing East.

That's Chenamma as a baby.

As a young girl at a school.

Chenamma in her youth.

Chenamma claiming that her arrow killed the tiger where as Mallasarja Desai asserts that his arrow killed the tiger. Admiring Chenamma's courage he offers to take her as his second wife.

Another scene, in the forest during a hunting expedition.

Chennamma mourning a close relative's death.

With her body-guards, preparing to go into a battle.

Fighting the British soldiers.

Leading her army into the battle-field.

Slaying of Thackeray in the battle.

Chenamma is captured and imprisoned in Bailhongal jail. Her trusted allies come to meet her.

Sangolli_Rayanna in a guise of a Sadhu meets Chenamma at Bailhongal jail.

Sangolli Rayanna is deceived by his cousins and handed over to the British who hang him to death.

After hearing about Sangolli Rayanna's death Rani Chenamma passes away and buried at Bailhongal.

Very nice pictures,
I am a hubli citizen and kittur fort is just 60 km for me.
I have visited the current fort and the ruins and trust me once you go there, you will still feel the wind gusting and each stone telling you the story about rani chenamma.
Its a unique experience, i recommend every one to visit current ruins of kittur.
